Foxy Brown Disapoints Fans

Posted in News with tags , on September 15, 2008 by hoodradiotv

Foxy Brown

Foxy Brown had a show this past Saturday at BB Kings, and apparently things didn’t go too well. She showed up extra late, in true Foxy fashion, causing the show to eventually get cancelled.
There were other acts on the bill that included Kool G. Rap, Roxanne Shante, AZ and Scarface, none of which showed up either. Wow. That’s bad business. How is it that you have a concert and none of the acts scheduled to perform show up? Crazy. I’m glad we didn’t leave the house to go to that mess, not that I would have anyway.

Atlanta rap star Soulja Boy Tell’em is elevating his success with a newly signed sneaker and apparel contract with Collipark Music/Interscope Records and Yums Shoes.

Under the multi-year agreement, Soulja Boy Tell’em will work with Yums’ designers to create his own signature shoe with Yums’ Block Star line of sneakers, which feature graffiti art on the soles of each colorfully crafted shoe.

“It clearly demonstrates how music and fashion blend together.” said Yums Shoes CEO JP McDade. “The shoes and clothing line allow the wearer to express his or her personality, because each shoe is an individual piece of art. Soulja Boy Tell’em will be able to assist in designing shoes and apparel exactly the way he would want them to look. And with Interscope’s considerable marketing savvy, we expect this effort to be our biggest, most far-reaching yet.”

The rapper’s business deal comes as amid the success of his Grammy award nominated single “Crank That (Soulja Boy).”

The song, which is featured on Soulja Boy Tell’em’s platinum-selling debut album souljaboytellem.com, has generated more than 3 million downloads of the song and ringtone to date.

“He built his own brand and we were lucky enough to work with him to take it to the next level,” said Steve Berman, Interscope/Geffen/A&M President of sales and marketing. “Soulja Boy Tell’em’s innate sense for what his fans want makes him the perfect artist to have a sneaker line…We’re excited to partner with him.”

Soulja Boy Tell’em fans can expect more from the rapper in the future, according to producer Mr. Collipark.

“We are very excited and have high expectations for this opportunity and future Soulja Boy Tell’em endeavors, including movies and television,” Mr. Collipark said.

In the seemingly never-ending conversation between Lil Wayne  and mixape deejays that erupted last week after controversial statements were made in a Foundation Magazine interview [click to read], things just keep going further.

After Wayne clarified his remarks Friday night [click to read], saying the “fuck mixtape deejays” was directed to a few of profiteers, namely The Empire Djs, deejays still remain irritated with the artist’s initial attitude. On Friday, New York’s Doo Wop spoke to HipHopDX [click to read], and released a video compilation rallying against the New Orleans native rapper.

Subsequently, Charleston, South Carolina’s Dj Chuck T sent an email blast making the June 10th release of Lil Wayne The Carter III accessible to fans through free download. The deejay wrote, ” Lil Wayne said ‘fuck mixtape DJ’s’…so now i’m about to show that boy the meaning of bootleg…I’ll be damned if I let [anyone] get away with saying fuck me without him facing some type of repercussions, including [him].The deejay said, “Don’t buy the new Lil Wyane album. Download it for free!” providing readers with a link to a download site.

Want a Verse? Then Gimme MY MONEY!!!

Posted in News with tags on June 13, 2008 by hoodradiotv

Lil Wayne doesn’t come cheap. To let him tell it, the self-proclaimed “best rapper alive,” who has collaborated with artists ranging from Enrique Iglesias to more subterranean acts like Little Brother, commands between $100,000 to $75, 000 for a guest verse.

The cheaper rate (75k) goes when Wayne likes the song or beat, and apparently, exceptions are hardly made. “I wouldn’t do a song for my sister for less than $75,000,” Wayne told Rolling Stone Magazine.

Sure, major labels are likely to fork up to 100k for a Wayne verse or hook, but what about indies with little to no budget? Though signed to a major imprint, Akon’s Kon Live/Interscope, Kardinal Offishall was fortunate enough to get the five-finger discount. “At the time, he had did it for free,” Kardi told XXLMag.com regarding Weezy’s verse on “My Swag,” which also featured the Clipse’s Pusha-T. “We didn’t even pay him. Mind you, it was a minute a go. I don’t wanna bust Wayne’s buble like that, but, big up to Wayne for sure.”

While Bun B, who featured Weezy on “Damn I’m Cold” off his recently released LP, II Trill, wouldn’t talk prices, he salutes Wayne for getting his money. “Go Wayne,” Bun cheered. “I wish I got 75, 100 a cameo.”

Wayne’s sister may have to save up for a verse, but Ludacris doesn’t necessarily have to. In addition to working on songs on one another’s projects, Wayne has also worked with Luda signees Playaz Circle.

“I can say that I’m on his album and he’s on mine,” Luda offered. “But as far as the business is worked out, no disrespect, but I rather keep that private. It’s his business, so he can tell it. But as far as I handle mine, shoot, it was just a mutual respect thing. So read between the lines.” –Carl Chery
